Two months ago, Facebook shut down The Cool Hunter‘s Facebook Page. Founder Bill Tikos this week posted about what happened (a submission for which hit the Hacker News frontpage), and was clearly frustrated as the decision was a huge blow to his business. Facebook has confirmed with me today that the reason for the removal of the Page was multiple instances of copyright infringement.
Tikos said that five years’ worth of content and the Page’s 788,000 fans have been lost. The number of Likes on the Page increased between 1,500 and 2,500 daily, and the Page generated more than 10,000 clicks to the site TheCoolHunter.net every day.
The link for the page, facebook.com/thecoolhunter, now simply displays “The page you requested was not found.” Tikos was understandably pissed as he didn’t know why it had happened:

Roanoke web design firm Duvall Media was recently hired by Blacksburg Photographer Amodeo Photography to re-design and search engine optimize their website.
April Amodeo told us that she had been quoted web design prices at thousands of dollars and seo services at hundreds of dollars per month. She had tried building her own website on her own hosted domain but was getting stuck and terribly frustrated with the technical installation and set-up.
Darin Britt, a consultant with Duvall Media, met April at a Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce function and offered to send her a proposal. So, we did some keyword research and competitive analysis for her showing what she could realistically expect from seo and traffic to her website. We also showed her specific action steps she could take to improve her existing website hosted by a photography niche web provider.
We provided her with this important information free of charge and without any obligation to work with us because we feel it’s important for our clients to be well informed. Fortunately, April liked what she saw and hired us to implement the plan we laid out for her.

Extreme Tree Company is a tree service serving the Roanoke & New River Valleys. Their specialty is tree removal in hard-to-reach places that boom trucks and cranes can’t get to.
So how do they do it? The old fashioned way… with ropes, pullies and muscle. Joshua Swift, owner, is a certified arborist who also climbs trees with the kind of gear you expect to see on mountain climbers. Josh uses harnesses, ropes and safety gear to scale massive trees, mount the pullies & position the ropes so he and his crew can use the trees like cranes to lift and move fallen or damaged trees.
He wanted to market his unique business to a larger audience and get more customers but wasn’t sure where to start. Josh new he needed a stronger web presence but his skills are in the tree business not websites or online marketing. Darin Britt, a consultant for Duvall Media arranged the meeting and submitted the proposal. Today, Duvall Media is developing the Extreme Tree website as well as handling direct mail campaigns targeting more than 10,000 prospects in the Roanoke and Salem areas.
Fariss Farms is a cabin rental, wedding venue and vineyard that recently hired Duvall Media to produce their web presence.
They had been relying on a property management company to produce web and marketing materials for Fariss Farms but Adam Fariss, owner, wanted more control over his company brand and marketing.
Duvall Media did some keyword research before launching the website design phase of the project to help the Fariss Farms attract highly targeted prospects for their cabin rental and wedding venue businesses. Duvall Media also provides consulting to help guide the client in content development and marketing.

ReForce Success has hired Roanoke web design firm Duvall Media to help with its website and online marketing efforts. Reforce Success is a sales training and coaching company serving businesses throughout the region and is run by Cam Cole of Roanoke, Virginia.
Reforce Success needed a website to capture leads for its sales training workshops and seminars. They were referred to Duvall Media by a local client. They didn’t need a whole lot of assistance. They mostly wanted a quick, easy to manage and affordable website solution that could be maintained with minimal staff time.
Duvall Media recommended WordPress as a simple content management solution to meet their needs. Since then, Reforce Success has gone on to recommend and refer clients to Duvall Media for other projects. Special thanks to Cam for the kind referrals.
Lynda Foster of Voltage Leadership has hired Duvall Media to re-design and manage the content of their goMonti coaching software website so that it matches the branding and functionality of the Voltage Leadership website.
Michael Guessford designed the web graphics and provides content creation for the goMonti site with assistance from Dylan James.
The original site was not consistent with the Voltage brand and lacked functionality. It was also hard to make simple content changes in a timely manner which frustrated the Voltage Leadership team. Their goal was to create a site that would help market and sell their proprietary coaching software to a national audience.
Duvall Media is assisting them with search engine optimization and sales copy writing for improved conversion of site visitors.
Roanoke web design firm Duvall Media was recently hired by local fashion designer Genevieve Journell of Catrina Fashions to build a strong online presence promoting her sewing workshops and guest speakers.
Duvall Media did some keyword research to help define some good potential domain names for the brand and website. The result was ArtisanSewingClasses.com.
Online sewing tutorials and classes are extremely competitive so we needed to find some aspect of the niche that was still relatively untapped but capable of attracting targeted customers and prospects. The artisan sewing classes taught by nationally and internationally known designers from the fashion industry are for all sewing levels of experience but appeal to the very serious hobbyist and professional.
The website features upcoming workshops with the ability to buy tickets and make reservations online. Future plans include video recording workshop so they can be sold on the site as well.

Roanoke web design firm Duvall Media was hired by Roanoke Valley Academy of Martial Arts to redesign their website, optimize the content for the search engines, improve visitor conversion and make it easier for the owners to make changes as needed.
Their original website was built by a parent of one of their young karate students. The site was attractive but not well optimized for their strongest keywords. The old site also lacked the three essential elements necessary to convert site visitors into actual customers.
Duvall Media submitted a proposal to Bryan Cochran, the owner of the academy. It’s a pleasure working with clients who know what they want and are prepared to get it. The Roanoke Academy of Martial Arts was quick to provide quality content and loads of photos for the website to progress rapidly. They even had some quality video clips left over from their 2011 banquet that Duvall Media was able to edit into short clips and post on the site.
